Our Mission
To create a lasting legacy of wildlife conservation and community empowerment by championing a model of sustainable development rooted in local leadership and resource stewardship.
About Us
The Wajir Wildlife Conservancies Landscape Association (WWCLA) is a regional conservation organization dedicated to preserving the biodiversity and natural resources of Wajir County.
Founded in 2022, WWCLA unites local community conservancies, government agencies, and private sector partners in the mission to protect our environment, reduce human-wildlife conflict, and improve the well-being of local communities.
We empower local leaders to steward their own land, instill pride in conservation, and benefit from eco-friendly livelihoods.
To create a lasting legacy of wildlife conservation and community empowerment by championing a model of sustainable development rooted in local leadership and resource stewardship.
To transform Wajir into a thriving landscape where wildlife, people, and natural resources exist in harmony, setting an example for community-driven conservation across Kenya and beyond.
Empowering local communities lies at the very heart of WWCLA’s conservation mission. We believe that when communities are involved in the decision-making process, they are better able to protect, nurture, and sustain their own environments.
WWCLA is committed to long-term, sustainable conservation solutions that bring lasting benefits to both people and nature. We recognize that conservation efforts must address the interconnected challenges of environmental health, economic growth, and community well-being.
Integrity is a cornerstone of our work, underpinning every action, decision, and relationship we cultivate. WWCLA operates with full transparency, open communication, and accountability to the communities we serve.
Collaboration amplifies the impact of our conservation efforts. We actively build partnerships with local, national, and international organizations, bringing together diverse perspectives and resources to create holistic solutions.
WWCLA is fortunate to be led by a dedicated team of conservationists, environmental experts, community leaders, and field rangers. Our field rangers, often recruited from local communities, play an essential role in wildlife monitoring, anti-poaching efforts, and conflict resolution. Their local insight and commitment to conservation make them invaluable stewards of the land and advocates for community involvement in conservation.
We collaborate closely with leaders from key local conservancies, such as the Lorrian swamp, Hadado, Qalkacha, Dadajabula, Dagahley and Diif Wildlife Conservancies, whose unique ecosystems represent the diversity of Wajir’s landscapes. We work alongside local leaders to ensure that our initiatives are culturally sensitive and directly address the needs and values of the communities we serve.
In addition to our on-the-ground team, WWCLA has formed strategic partnerships with national and international conservation organizations that share our mission. These partners provide us with financial support, technical expertise, and broader networks, enabling us to achieve greater impact and advance our conservation goals.
